Swedish Relaxation Massage Course – SWEDISH ABIAN
Basic Lesson Time: Total 25 hours
Required Technique to Be Mastered: Swedish Relaxation Massage
Qualification Name: SWEDISH ABIAN
Course Description
Swedish massage is a classic Western massage technique with roots going back to ancient Roman times. Today it is known as the “European standard” relaxation massage and is one of the most widely practiced styles in Europe and North America. It gently works on both mind and body and is especially known for its very high relaxation effect.
Main Techniques
Using the thumbs and palms, the therapist combines several techniques such as gentle tapping, light percussion, and smooth stroking movements. The massage follows the lines of the muscles and main areas of the body, balancing stronger kneading, medium-pressure gliding, and small circular movements to create a rhythmic and comfortable flow.
Recommended For
Because Swedish massage uses a soft and skin-friendly approach, it is suitable for sensitive skin and sun-exposed or sunburned skin. It gently eases muscle tension and fatigue, promotes healthy blood circulation, and supports overall wellness.
Main Benefits
- Deep relaxation and stress relief
- Improved blood and lymph circulation
- Recovery from muscle fatigue and tiredness
- Support for general health and anti-aging care
- Skin care support and gentle body shaping effects
Relationship with Balinese Massage
Balinese massage is said to be influenced by Swedish massage techniques. When Western therapists brought Swedish techniques to Bali, the style was gradually adapted—pressure and strokes were adjusted to better suit Asian body types, and a unique Balinese style was developed.
While the two styles share some techniques, they differ in purpose, depth of pressure, and stroke quality, each having its own clear character.
▶ Features of Balinese Massage
- Long, deep strokes with relatively strong pressure
- Effective for lymph flow, body balance, and deep relaxation
▶ Features of Swedish Massage

- Gentle work on the superficial muscle layers, with a strong focus on relaxation
- Suitable for sensitive and sun-exposed skin
